A teenage boy needed hospital treatment tonight after a garden shed fire threatened to rage out of control near Belfast.

Electricity supplies to up to 1,000 homes were disrupted as the blaze spread to an oil tank and then a transformer unit.

The fire started at the rear of a house at Lagmore in the Poleglass estate on the western outskirts of the city.

It was reported that a boy suffered burns when his clothes were set alight in the shed.

His father and neighbours are believed to have beat out the flames before he was taken to hospital.

As power was cut off, residents told of burning oil flowing through the street.

Electricity operator NIE sent teams out to try to restore power overnight.
