Recovery of two hill climbers bodies underway

The Kerry Mountain Rescue Unit is this morning attempting to recover the bodies of two hill climbers, including that of the General Secretary of the Soldiers Union, John Lucey.

The PDFORRA Chief and mother-of-one Joan O’ Leary died when they slipped down a gully in the MacGillycuddy Reeks.

The Valencia Coastguard helicopter is also involved in the recovery operation.

The Kerry Mountain Rescue team departed base at 7.10am this morning and they will be joined at about 8.30am by the Irish coastguard helicopter from Shannon.

The rescue team will board the helicopter and then proceed to Loughduff where they will attempt to remove the two bodies from the gully.
