Reigning Cheltenham Gold Cup hero War Of Attrition is on course to tackle the James Nicholson Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday.
Having lifted last season’s blue riband at the Festival in March, the Mouse Morris-trained seven-year-old went on to register another authoritative success at Punchestown in April.
He made an exemplary return to action over two miles and six furlongs at the same venue earlier in the month and is currently showing his County Tipperary handler all the right signs in the run-up to this weekend’s test.
“War Of Attrition came out of that race well and is in very good form,” explained Morris.
“He worked on Saturday and the plan is to run at Down Royal if we’re happy with him later in the week,” he told the Racing Post.
War Of Attrition is already as short as 3-1 with sponsors totesport to claim his second Gold Cup at Cheltenham later in the season.
