Christine Hamilton hoped to knock 10 years off her looks when she had face-enhancing Botox injections, it was disclosed today.
The wife of disgraced former Tory MP Neil Hamilton underwent treatment in an investigation for ITV1’s Tonight with Trevor McDonald.
Known as the ‘‘five-minute facelift’’, the 52-year-old experimented with the injections to unearth any hidden dangers in the process.
Mrs Hamilton said her husband was fond of her expressive face but had supported her decision to try Botox. She admitted that she had not told her mother.
She said: ‘‘I like to use my face... That’s why I am a bit apprehensive. That’s what my husband likes about me what he calls my mobile face and I don’t want it disappearing.
‘‘I have been thinking about it for ages and ages. Any woman who is my age that doesn’t admit to even thinking about having it done is not being entirely accurate.
‘‘It’s not fair - when men get older they get more attractive and we don’t.’’
Mrs Hamilton was given the injections by 48-year-old Nick Percival, a consultant plastic surgeon at the Renascence Clinic in London.
Mr Percival told the programme: ‘‘The concept that Botox is just one step on from having your hair or nails done is just not true.
‘‘You are injecting a toxin substance. There are medical risks and those need to be taken into account. Patients need to know what the risks are.’’
Mrs Hamilton - who describes herself as the ‘‘perfectly average woman’’ - said she was persuaded by Mr Percival to have the treatment.
Although she had thought about it for a while, she said: ‘‘I’d always said Botox is the one thing I’d never have done and then Mr Percival persuaded me on the telephone. I trust this man.
‘‘I just want him to take 10 years off my looks.’’
Mrs Hamilton rejected claims that she was having the injections for vanity: ‘‘I’m not vain - if I was I wouldn’t do it on TV.’’
Other celebrities thought to have tried the treatment include Lulu, Joan Rivers, Anne Robinson and Cliff Richard.
