Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry after a 25-year-old man was shot dead in south Dublin.

Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry after a 25-year-old man was shot dead in south Dublin.

The man was shot a number of times in the head outside a house at Lealand Close in Clondalkin shortly before 10pm last night.

He was rushed to Tallaght Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene of the shooting has been preserved for a technical examination and the State pathologist is expected to carry out a post mortem later today.

Gardaí who were alerted to the scene discovered a grey BMW car at nearby Lindisfarne Park.

An attempt had been made to set the car on fire and it was also preserved for forensic examination.

Gardaí at Clondalkin have launched a murder investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them at 01 6667600.
