Kelleher: Taoiseach must deal with Health Ministers

Fianna Fáil's spokesperson on Health Billy Kelleher has said the Taoiseach Enda Kenny needs to step in and reshuffle his Ministers in the Department of Health.

Deputy Kellegher said the relationship between the Health Minister James Reilly and his Junior Roisín Shortall has become untenable.

Both Ministers have been at loggerheads in recent months, but it all came to a head last week when Minister Shortall refused to publicly state that she has confidence in Dr Reilly.

Deputy Kelleher said the relationship between the two Ministers is at breaking point.

The Fianna Fáil TD said: "Well I think the present situation is no longer tenable.

"What we need now is for the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste to step in and to address this and make sure we have people in Health who are confident and can work together and deal with the very serious challenges that face the Health service in the months ahead."
