Good spirits at Corpse Bride premiere

Movie couple Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter posed together for the premiere of their new film Corpse Bride.

Movie couple Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter posed together for the premiere of their new film Corpse Bride.

Bonham Carter has been cast as the voice of a ghost in director Burton’s new animation epic.

Her character comes back from the dead to claim she is legally married to Victor Van Dort, voiced by Johnny Depp, after he put a ring on the finger of her skeleton in error.

The film is not the first time the pair, who have a two-year-old son Billy Ray and live together in Britain, have collaborated on the big screen, having also worked together on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Big Fish.

Room With A View actress Bonham Carter, 39, said of working with her Californian-born partner: “We’re pretty free with each other. It would be appalling if we weren’t. Then we just couldn’t work together, but it’s surprisingly simple.

“It’s only if Tim cuts something I really like, like in Big Fish. Then I woke him up in the middle of the night and asked him why he cut my monologue. He didn’t even tell me that he cut it but we got over it.”

The actress also voices a character in the new Wallace and Gromit film released last week.

She said: “It was ideal because they both came up when I was pregnant.”

Despite not appearing on the screen in the voice roles, Bonham Carter said: “You still have to act and you have to learn your lines for the part.”

Bonham Carter, who wore an Alberta Ferretti black ra-ra style skirt and matching jacket, joked of the promotional posters for the film featuring her character: “My bust is nothing like hers.”

Burton, 47, famous for quirky movies like Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, joked about working with Bonham Carter: “She’s never been cast as a human. If she wants to play a human being she should work with other people.”

The film also features the voices of Christopher Lee, Albert Finney, Joanna Lumley and Emily Watson.

Lee, who was at last night’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square said: “Premieres are a wonderful experience but I’m amazed that they recognise me because I’ve just shaved off my beard for the first time in years.”

Big Brother’s Makosi also made an appearance in a see-through black dress designed to show off her bright pink underwear.
