Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a five-month-old baby boy died in a collision in Athlone.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a five-month-old baby boy died in a collision in Athlone.

The crash happened when the car collided with a barrier on the Athlone bypass shortly after 2pm yesterday afternoon.

A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the male driver and female passenger, both aged in their 20s, were not injured.

An investigation is currently underway into the cause of the crash.
