The Irish National Teachers Organisation has demanded action to address primary school class sizes in the upcoming Budget.

The Irish National Teachers Organisation has demanded action to address primary school class sizes in the upcoming Budget.

In its pre-Budget submission, the primary teachers' union claims Irish classrooms are the second most crowded in Europe.

It says more than one-third of primary pupils in Dublin are in classes of more than 30 children.

The INTO also wants the Government to set up a programme to provide hot meals to primary children in disadvantaged areas and to set dates for the start of building works at schools with substandard accommodation.
