An interim examiner has been appointed to Brogan's Bakery in Glenamaddy, Co Galway.

The examiner, Michael McAteer of Grant Thornton, says the business will continue to operate as normal during the examinership.

All 55 full time and 27 seasonal and part time workers at the bakery have been secured during the examinership period.

The High Court was told that a potential investor has been identified.

Meanwhile 100 full and time part jobs have been lost with the closure this evening of JJB Sports.

A liquidator was appointed to the Irish division of JJB Sports on October 1.

However efforts to find a buyer for its four stores and two leisure centres in Dundalk, Blanchardstown, Limerick and Liffey Valley, failed.
