FF accused of cynicism over Aer Lingus controversy

Labour Party TD Róisín Shorthall is accusing Fianna Fáil of cynicism over its attitude to the Aer Lingus controversy.

Labour Party TD Róisín Shorthall is accusing Fianna Fáil of cynicism over its attitude to the Aer Lingus controversy.

The comment follows the revelation that Fianna Fáil has circulated a memo to its TDs and councillors in the west playing down the impact of the ending of Shannon-Heathrow services.

The document claims talk about massive job losses is an over-reaction and the Government's refusal to intervene has actually protected the Aer Lingus share price.

"This is a very cynical move by Fianna Fail," Ms Shorthall said today. "On the one hand, they leave their representatives in the west to shout and bawl about this thing.

"They're now toning it down and advising them that this isn't as serious as it's been made out to be."
