Gardaí warn motorists not to drink and drive

Motorists are again being warned to never ever drink and drive.

Gardaí are also asking passengers not to get into a car with a drunk driver and to advise people who are drunk not to drive.

Extra Gardaí and checkpoints will be in place over the bank holiday weekend.

Superintendent Aidan Reid has this advice: “An Garda Síochána will be out there in force, over the bank holiday weekend and indeed over the summer months.

“We are very conscious that this is a high risk period, and there is over 3,150 people have already been arrested drunk driving and drug driving this year and that is an increase over last year’s.”
