Descendents of the 1916 leaders will visit the GPO today to highlight an ongoing campaign to save the historic GPO / Moore Street battlefield from destruction.

Descendents of the 1916 leaders will visit the GPO today to highlight an ongoing campaign to save the historic GPO / Moore Street battlefield from destruction.

Developer Joe O'Reilly, a NAMA client, owns the site, so it is unlikely a proposed large scale shopping centre will be developed at the site in the short-term.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Dublin City Councillors have all expressed their wishes for the site to be developed as a cultural and historic quarter in time for the 2016 centenary.
