Police divers today resumed searching a Belfast reservoir after a top loyalist from the city disappeared.
The man, who vanished from his north Belfast home earlier this week, is believed to be a close associate of the deposed Ulster Defence Association leader Johnny “Mad Dog” Adair.
A number of people arrested for questioning about the disappearance remain in police custody.
Special diving teams spent all day yesterday trawling the Waterworks Park in north Belfast without success. They returned today to resume the search.
The missing man has not been seen since he left his home in the north of the city on Wednesday morning.
It is understood he had links to Adair, who was returned to jail earlier this year at the height of a violent internal loyalist paramilitary feud.
Adair’s wife Gina and numerous supporters from the notorious UDA C Company were driven out of the Lower Shankill Road by the mainstream UDA leadership and fled by overnight ferry to Scotland.
The missing man is thought to have been one of those who fled and to have returned to Belfast little more than a week ago.
