Gardaí have named the two women who were killed last week on the roads.

The incidents happened in Clare and in Wexford.

Seventy-five-year-old Eileen O'Brien from Carnacalla in Clare was killed as she tried to cross the road near her home on Monday evening last.

The incident happened at around 7pm outside Kilrush on the Kilkee Road.

Gardaí said visibility was very poor because of fog at the time.

In a separate incident on the same day, 51-year-old Eileen Lacey from Ballytarsna died after her car crashed with a lorry at Oulart near Gorey.

As today is one of the busiest days of the year for traffic, gardaí are continuing to appeal to drivers to slow down and take care on the roads.
