The Tanaiste has ruled out any cut in the top rate of tax in December’s budget.

The Tanaiste has ruled out any cut in the top rate of tax in December’s budget.

Mary Harney made the comments as the latest figures from the Department of Finance show that the Exchequer surplus this year will be £2bn less than expected.

Ms Harney has indicated that the Government may focus cuts on the lower paid.
