Gardaí have confirmed that the Commissioner Noel Conroy has assigned a Chief Superintendent to examine the circumstances surrounding the broadcast of footage on RTÉ yesterday relating to a speeding case in Mullingar.

In it, two men who were fined for dangerous driving were shown driving at high speeds on the dual-carriageway outside the Westmeath town.

This follows the sentencing Judge John Neilan's call this morning for an investigation into how the footage was leaked to the media.
