The body of a man was found floating in a water-logged hole at a building site today.

The body of a man was found floating in a water-logged hole at a building site today.

Gardaí were called to the scene near the Mount Mellick Road in Portlaoise, Co Laois, at 8am this morning.

The man’s body was found face down in a large body of water which had formed after a hole had been excavated at the site, a garda spokeswoman said.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the man’s death and the scene has been preserved for technical examination.
