An 88-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being tied up during an aggravated burglary in her home in Co Meath.

A man in his 30s entered the woman's house in the Woodlands area of Navan last night. He cut the telephone wires, which it's understood he used to tie up the woman's hands and feet.

The house was completely ransacked, but it's not thought anything was taken during the incident.

The woman managed to free herself some hours later, and alerted neighbours.

She is being treated in Our Lady's hospital for non life threatening injuries.
