The British government has announced plans to introduced tougher laws to tackle car thieves and joyriders in the North.

Under the new laws, people convicted of causing death or serious injury through car crime could face up to 14 years in prison.

The announcement of the planned new laws comes just days after an inquest into the death of a seven-year-old boy struck by a stolen car in Belfast.
