Ryanair has slammed Aer Lingus management for refusing to hold an EGM following its decision to end services between Shannon and Heathrow.

Ryaniar, which owns nearly 30% of the former national carrier, has twice requested an EGM to give shareholders an opportunity to vote down the decision.

However, Aer Lingus has rejected the requests, saying they are a Ryanair ploy to undermine its main rival.

Speaking at Ryanair's AGM in Dublin today, the airline's chief executive, Michael O'Leary, said he believed the Aer Lingus move was unlawful under Irish company law.

It says Aer Lingus is obliged to hold an EGM if a shareholder with 10% of more shares requests one.
