Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has hit out at Fianna Fáil's u-turn on stamp duty, saying it will only serve to enrich property developers.
The government party had previously insisted that it would not interfere in the property market, but is set to announce today that it will scrap stamp duty for first-time buyers if re-elected to power.
All the other main parties have also made similar proposals, but Mr Adams says Sinn Féin is opposed to scrapping stamp duty because it will only allow developers to hike house prices.
He says there are other ways, including tax incentives, to ease the financial burden on first-time buyers.
