Gardaí in Dublin are investigating the robbery of a cash box from a security van in the Cabra area this morning.

Two men - one armed with a handgun - threatened the occupants of the van shortly after it pulled up outside the McDonald's restaurant on the Navan Road at around 10am.

The pair escaped in a waiting car which was later found abandoned on nearby Marlborough Road.

The stolen cash box was also found on Church Street, but it is unclear if the raiders managed to escape with its contents.
