Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man in connection with last night's killing of a man in Santry.

A man in his 50s was detained in the Ballymun area.

He is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be detained for up to seven days.

The arrest comes after a man in his 40s was shot in a top-floor apartment at a gated complex in the Larch Hill area of Santry at around 11pm last night.

The dead man, who was living alone in the apartment, is believed to have been shot twice in the head.

The body of the dead man, who has not yet been named, has been removed from the scene while gardaí carry out a technical examination.

A post mortem examination will be carried out this afternoon.
