The Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness has taken the top job on the main financial watchdog of the Government.

The Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness has taken the top job on the main financial watchdog of the Government.

Mr McGuinness beat Independent TD Shane Ross to the chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

He required the votes of both Fine Gael and Labour to secure the position.

Mr Ross, however, didn't think it was right to give the job to someone from Fianna Fáil: "I think it is utterly inappropriate that Fianna Fáil, or any member of Fianna Fáil, should be put in charge of examining the public accounts. I think that is the worst possible choice."
