All flights into Shannon Airport in Co Clare were diverted today after a bird flew into the engine of a Ryanair plane that was preparing to take off.

All flights into Shannon Airport in Co Clare were diverted today after a bird flew into the engine of a Ryanair plane that was preparing to take off.

An Aer Lingus transatlantic flight was sent back to Dublin, while two other flights were sent to Cork.

Meanwhile, an Aer Lingus return flight from Dublin to Brussels was also cancelled following a walk-out by Sabena ground staff.
