“I’m unbeaten here for about three years – two runners and two winners,” joked Coupland.

“It’s the first for a while, but I’ve only a handful of my own horses.

“He ran quite well a couple of weeks ago and he seems to be better on the Polytrack than at Southwell. I expect we’ll find another little race here or at Wolverhampton in the next couple of weeks.”

Martin Dwyer steered Tiradito to a comfortable three-length success in the Bet FA Cup - Betdaq Maiden Stakes.

Tiradito had finished second on his debut to subsequent Cheveley Park runner-up Misheer, although his juvenile campaign was punctuated by a long lay-off.

The even-money favourite was clear by the two-furlong pole and just had to be shaken up to keep his mind on the job as Abhar ran on for minor honours.

Dwyer said: “He was the top-rated horse in the race and was just idling when he was in front. There was a muddling pace but we put the race to bed on the bend.”

Quinn made it a double on Tamino in the Bet Multiples - Betdaq Handicap.

The 5-2 favourite was headed close home over course and distance on December 30 but he was in no mood to let that happen again and was always in front, keeping two lengths in hand at the post.

Trainer Paul Howling, who shares Warren Place stable in Newmarket with the legendary Henry Cecil, said: “Mr Cecil asked me for a lead horse and he has been working with some of his nice ones. It seems to have been his rejuvenation.

“I didn’t think he’d win by two lengths today so I am going to have to broaden his horizons.”

A fearless Stephen Craine helped 2-1 favourite Wunder Strike complete a four-timer in the Betdaq The Betting Exchange Handicap.

Jim Boyle’s gelding had been ridden by different pilots on each occasion but Craine looked like he knew him well as he clung onto him as long as possible on the inside rail before nudging half a length ahead.

“Stevie is an underrated jockey but he got him in a lovely spot behind the leaders,” said Boyle.

“He has to be ridden with confidence as he doesn’t do a lot in front and winning like that, you wouldn’t rule him out of going in again.

“It was just coincidence with the different jockeys and this was an extra meeting and some of them were up at Southwell.”

Neil King's Chalice Welcome took the Betdaq.co.uk Handicap on a bob of the head with Alfie Tupper.

It looked for all money like Alfie Tupper would cling on in the final furlong of the mile and a quarter heat but Hayley Turner drove the 7-2 favourite, a winner here last month, through to claim the spoils by a nose.

Trainer Neil King said: “We’ve got 30 horses and 30 jumpers – we don’t do Flat racing unless we have to!

“When the ground goes against this horse for jumping, we give him a spin on the Flat.”

Another trainer better known for his jumpers is Chris Gordon, who pocketed the Betdaq On 0870 178 1221 Handicap.

Winning Show (9-1) crept almost unnoticed up the inside rail under Liam Keniry and got the verdict from Star Choice by half a length.

Winchester-based Gordon remarked: “He’s a tricky ride – I like mine being ridden out front away from trouble but this one needs to be held up and Liam did it well.

“You can do anything with this horse – hurdles, chases, the Flat. I might put him in a trap now and start him off trotting!”
