A man has appeared in court in Wexford in connection with the seizure of cigarettes at Rosslare Europort.

Some 23,000 cigarettes were found in a people carrier which had travelled on the ferry from France.

Assistance detector dog Alfie helped find the cigarettes which were concealed in the floor of the car.

The driver - a Lithuanian man - has appeared before Wexford District Court where he was remanded in custody until Tuesday.

The cigarettes were worth around €12,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €9,500.
