Two pedestrians have been killed in separate road accidents in Limerick and Westmeath overnight.

Two pedestrians have been killed in separate road accidents in Limerick and Westmeath overnight.

A 23-year-old man was knocked down on the N4 near Mullingar at around 5am today.

The road remains closed pending a full technical examination.

Meanwhile in Limerick a man in his late 60s was hit by the car near a roundabout close to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital at Dooradoyle at around 8pm.

He was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.

The road, which was closed off by gardaí for over four hours, has since reopened.
