Road safety experts disappointed at breathalysing delay

Road safety experts are expressing disappointment that automatic breath testing for drivers involved in fatal or serious-injury road crashes has been delayed.

New measures which would see such motorists automatically breath tested will not now come into force at the end of the month as originally planned.

According to the Irish Independent, the new law has been delayed until September, when lower drink-driving limits come into place.

Speaking to i105107, road safety officer with Kildare County Council Declan Keogh said motorists still needed to be vigilant.

"It is unfortunate…but gardaí will still carry out alcohol tests and that drivers may be stopped and breathalysed," he said.
