Oasis mini-festivals to revive old spirit

Rock giants Oasis will revive the spirit of their glory days today as they begin three days hosting their own mini-festivals in London.

The one time bad boys of rock top a bill of established and up and coming acts with around 40,000 fans each day making a pilgrimage to Finsbury Park.

The shows will conjure up images of the band’s legendary 1996 shows at Knebworth Park when a quarter of a million people enjoyed a pair of shows by the band who were joined by a stellar cast.

Oasis were then at the peak of their powers and were unmatched as the biggest band in the UK.

Although sales have fallen from their mid to late Nineties peak, the band are still a huge seller with a devoted fanbase. They are on course to notch up another number one album this weekend with their fifth studio release Heathen Chemistry.

The band’s hedonism and occasional bad behaviour may have been tamed over the years as members have been replaced and the Gallagher brothers have been mellowed by fatherhood.

But their regular tongue lashings for fellow chart stars have continued with Kylie Minogue and Damon Albarn among the victims of verbal assaults in recent weeks.

Support will come from The Charlatans, who were on the bill at Knebworth, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Merseyside’s hotly tipped hopes The Coral.
