Over 96,000 people are waiting for social housing - and the Housing Minister is being asked to tackle that number.
The Irish Council for Social Housing is holding its annual conference in Wexford today - with Minister Jan O'Sullivan due to address delegates today.
The ICSH says a stimulus programme for social housing is urgently needed - and could create thousands of jobs.
Executive Director of the ICSH, Donal McManus, says the Minister must act now to take families off waiting lists.
"There has been families waiting on lists for a number of years, vulnerable people like homeless people , elderly people," he said.
"That's why it is key now at this stage in the economy to have a stimulus programme for new social housing delivery to make an impact on those waiting lists."
