Gardai have recaptured a prisoner who escaped from custody this morning during a hospital visit.

Gardai have recaptured a prisoner who escaped from custody this morning during a hospital visit.

The 32-year-old was on a routine visit to St James's Hospital in Dublin.

He managed to escape through a window shortly before midday, but was recaptured in the Kilmainham area of Dublin just after 3pm.

He was serving a 18-month sentence at the Central Mental Hospital for larceny and minor drug offences.

The man was due to be released tomorrow.
