Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s baby daughter is to be offered Namibian citizenship.
Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt will be given a passport by the African nation where she was born if her parents, who were said to be “thoroughly overjoyed” by her arrival, want it.
Meanwhile a source close to the couple told People magazine mother and daughter were doing very well.
“Angie and baby are fantastic,” the source said.
“Brad was at her side during the birth.”
Shiloh, whose name means “the peaceful one” in Hebrew, was born on Saturday night in The Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund, according to the magazine.
It said Jolie was expected to remain in the hospital for a couple days before returning to the seaside etreat where she and Pitt have been since before the birth.
According to gossip columns the new baby has her mother’s dark hair and her father’s nose.
“The couple are thoroughly overjoyed by the event and have expressed their happiness to be able to share this experience in Namibia,” the country’s Deputy Environment and Tourism Deputy Minister Leon Jooste said.
He added: “Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt will, according to Namibian law, be allowed to obtain Namibian citizenship, if the parents should choose to do so.”
Mr Jooste said the issue would be discussed with Jolie and Pitt “at a later stage“.
He added: “They have again expressed their deepest appreciation for the love, warmth and kindness of the Namibian people as well as understanding from all during this special and sensitive time.”
The manager of Jolie’s estranged father, actor Jon Voight, told the New York Daily News the 67-year-old was “really, really excited for them both“.
“He can’t wait to hold the baby in his arms and be grandpa,” Dorothy Koster added.
Jolie already has two adopted children, Maddox, four and Zahara, one. Their surnames were legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after the actor announced he planned to co-adopt them.
