Calls have been made for all alcoholic products to contain explicit health warning labels.
Alcohol Action Ireland said the issue needed to be a priority for the incoming Government.
Ireland has the second highest cancer rate in the world and despite proven links between alcohol consumption and cancer, one in five of us does not believe there is a link between the two.
"There is an undeniable link between alcohol and many cancers, a link that many drinkers are completely oblivious to," said policy officer with Alcohol Action Ireland Cliona Murphy.
"Four out of five people in Ireland believe alcoholic products shoud carry health warnings. It's what the consumer wants," she said.
