New figures from eircom have revealed that Poland is now the most popular destination for international calls from payphones.

The number one spot has been firmly held by the USA in recent years, but Ireland's growing number of migrants from Eastern Europe has changed our national calling patterns.

The phone company also claims that the number of countries called from Irish payphones is increasing, with 130 countries called regularly last year.

"We've been aware of the growing international community here in the past couple of years, and we see growing call volumes to countries that would be untypical," said Ken O'Byrne, eircom payphone cirector.

"Poland would have come from virtually nowhere to being number one in the last twelve months."
