Labour's Ryan overtakes Socialist Daly after recount

A recount of votes in Dublin North has resulted in a dramatic swing in favour of an eliminated Labour candidate.

A recount of votes in Dublin North has resulted in a dramatic swing in favour of an eliminated Labour candidate.

Brendan Ryan now looks set to have this decision overturned, with Socialist Party candidate Clare Daly losing out instead.

The decision leaves Ryan in with a chance to contest the final three seats still not filled.

Labour candidate Ryan has spent the last number of hours disputing a number of ballot papers that were singled out by his tallymen in a recount which started here early this morning.

Eventually this resulted in Ryan coming from being 11 votes behind Socialist candidate Clare Daly to being two in front.

Accordingly she is now in line to be eliminated but has been given until 6pm to return to the count centre however, to request another recount.

However it is by no means guaranteed that this would be granted by the returning officer.
