RUC chief dismisses link between dissidents and IRA

The RUC chief constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, says he does not believe there is any significant co-operation between dissident republicans and the mainstream IRA.

The RUC chief constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, says he does not believe there is any significant co-operation between dissident republicans and the mainstream IRA.

Mr Flanagan also said he did not believe that the Sinn Fein leader had any advance knowledge of the Omagh bombing.

He added that it was his personal preference that members of the RUC, or the new Police Service of Northern Ireland, would not be members of the Orange Order.
