The Northern secretary, Dr John Reid, has condemned this morning’s killing and urged the people of Northern Ireland to confront the struggle between peace and hatred.

Stormont’s first Minister David Trimble and deputy first Minister Mark Durkan have also spoken out against the attack.

Dr Reid expressed sorrow that yet another family has been devastated by ‘evil people’.
