Frankie Dettori will have fellow Italian Dario Vargiu in the Dubai Duty Free Rest of the World Team he will captain in a bid to retain the Blue Square Shergar Cup.

Vargiu is the only jockey in the Rest of the World team or the Great Britain & Ireland Team riding at Ascot for the first time on Saturday, August 7.

The other members of Dettori’s team are Japanese champion Yutaka Take, Australian Damien Oliver, South African Weichong Marwing and Frenchman Gerald Mosse.

Michael Roberts, selector once again for the Rest of the World, said: “I’m thrilled with my team. Only Dario hasn’t ridden at Ascot before and Frankie will be the perfect person to talk his compatriot through the day.

“They are all top-class riders and I’m very confident that we’ll be dishing out another thrashing to the home team in a couple of weeks’ time!”

Jamie Spencer makes his debut in the Sodexho Great Britain & Ireland team, captained by Kieren Fallon.

They are supported by Kevin Darley, Darryll Holland, Johnny Murtagh and Michael Kinane.

“I couldn’t be happier with my line-up,” enthused Jason Weaver, who will be picking the horses for Sodexho Great Britain & Ireland at the draw two days before the Blue Square Shergar Cup.

“My boys are determined to get their hands back on the Cup. Apart from Kieren, who won two races and picked up the Silver Saddle for the top rider last year, my team had a shocker.

“We’re aiming to put that right in no uncertain terms this time.”
