George Boateng believes the 2-1 victory at Charlton will help lift the pressure on John Gregory.
Aston Villa picked up only their third away win of the season thanks to goals from Darius Vassell and Juan Pablo Angel.
Graham Stuart pulled one back after Peter Schmeichel had saved his initial effort from the penalty spot.
Boateng said: "It's good because pressure's off a little bit now.
"We are happy with this win. We have performed quite good but we haven't got the right result for the manager.
"The press, the chairman and the fans have obviously been unsatisfied... this is for John Gregory."
Boateng admitted he was annoyed after his side failed to keep a clean sheet following the late penalty, adding: "It was sloppy but nevertheless it was a win."
Vassell's strike took a deflection to deceive Charlton keeper Dean Kiely, but the Villa youngster said: "As a striker you have to claim that one.
"That was a good win for us, we have got to try and build on it."
