An investigation has found that the marking of a Junior Cert subject was harshly graded by examiners in many cases last year.

The subject in question is civic, social and political education.

It has been revealed that project work associated with the subject received low marks and, in some cases, no marks at all.

Project work counts for 60% of the overall grade.

Almost 60,000 students sat the subject and the investigation was prompted after the results of 600 pupils were upgraded last month.
