TUI members vote to suspend industrial action

TUI members have voted overwhelmingly to temporarily suspend their industrial action in order to allow the union to engage in discussions related to the Croke Park Agreement.

The Teachers Union of Ireland started a work to rule as a result of the pension levy and the pay cut.

"It is important to clarify that this result does not signify acceptance of the so-called Croke Park deal," said a statement released this evening.

"TUI expects that it will now be able to partake in ongoing discussions with the Department of Education and Skills along with the other teacher unions.

"Any subsequent proposals as a result of these discussions will be put before TUI members by way of a new ballot before anything is agreed."

The margin of the vote was 84.2% YES, 15.8% NO.
