Call for Government to act on prostitution laws before election

Ruhama, the group supporting women affected by prostitution, is urging the Government to publish sex purchasing laws before it finishes its term in office.

The charity's call comes as the French Government became the latest European Parliament to provisionally approve legislation to criminalise the purchase of sex.

Northern Ireland enacted similar legislation earlier this month.

CEO of the Charity, Sarah Benson, said they are hopeful Frances Fitzgerald will fulfil her commitment to the cause.

"We are really hopeful that the Sexual Offences Bill will be published in full and will include provisions that will focus on demand … and also, very importantly, decriminalise those in prostitution and ensure that they're supported," she said.
