Irish airline Ryanair has announced plans to lay off 400 workers at the Dutch low-cost airline Buzz, which it bought for almost €22m earlier this year.

Ryanair, which is due to take over Buzz's business on April 1, also announced plans to axe 12 of the airline's routes and to ground all flights for the month of April.

The Irish airline said it has yet to make a final decision on whether to restart Buzz in May or shut down the company altogether.

It added that anybody who had booked flights in April will be given a full refund or the opportunity to change their travel arrangements.
