Brother and sister John and Joan Cusack have both dropped out of the cast of the remake of The Stepford Wives for family reasons.
They will be replaced by Matthew Broderick and Bette Midler, according to Daily Variety.
John Cusack had been set to play the husband of Nicole Kidman's character who becomes seduced by the idea of having a reprogrammed mate. Joan Cusack was set to play a friend who helps her put together the clues.
Sources close to the Cusacks say their exits were due solely to the need to attend to a personal matter they would not elaborate on.
As well as Broderick, Midler and Kidman, the cast includes Christopher Walken, Glenn Close and Faith Hill.
Like the 1975 original, which starred Katherine Ross and Paula Prentiss, The Stepford Wives is based on the novel by Rosemary’s Baby author Ira Levin.
