Rape trial reaches closing stages

The trial of a man accused of raping his ex-girlfriend and detaining her in his flat against her will has reached its closing stages in the Central Criminal Court.

The trial of a man accused of raping his ex-girlfriend and detaining her in his flat against her will has reached its closing stages in the Central Criminal Court.

The jury of six man and six women will begin its deliberations tomorrow after they have been addressed by both prosecuting counsel and defence counsel and charged by Mr Justice Paul Carney.

The 33 -year-old accused man has pleaded not guilty to the rape, anal rape and false imprisonment of the woman in his flat on September 18, 1998.

The woman was 19 at the time.
