The Green Party has tabled a private members' Bill in the Dáil seeking to outlaw fur-farming.
The proposed legislation is to be debated today and tomorrow.
Six mink farms are currently licensed to operate in Ireland, one of which also rears silver and arctic foxes.
Tens of thousands of animals are exterminated at the facilities every year solely for their fur.
The animals spend their entire lives in tiny cages and the Green Party has described the practice as needless and cruel.
