Sinn Féin support draws level with Fine Gael for first time

Support for Sinn Féin is on a par with Fine Gael for the first time, according to a new poll.

The Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI survey shows Labour has enjoyed a small increase in support since the summer Cabinet reshuffle with new Tánaiste Joan Burton now the most popular party leader.

When people were asked who they would vote for if an election were held tomorrow, and when undecideds are excluded, support for Fine Gael was unchanged at 24% and Labour were up two points to 9%.

Support for Sinn Féin was equal to Fine Gael at 24%, an increase of four points. Fianna Fáil has dropped five points since the last poll in May to 20%, while Independents/Others are down one point to 23%.
