Groups representing fishermen are due to meet Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith today to discuss what they say is a crisis in the fishing industry.
Fishermen have been protesting across the country in recent days to highlight the threat to their livelihoods posed by rising fuel costs, cheap imports and EU quotas.
They had been blockading ports in Cork and Waterford and had also threatened to mount similar action in Dublin.
However, they suspended the protests after today's talks were arranged.
The fishermen, who are seeking compensation for high fuel costs and stricter controls on imported fish, have warned that they will immediately resume their actions if they are not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting.
